Magazine Spotlight – Autumn 2015 Somerset Life

Magazine Spotlight — November 10, 2015

IMG_4754Today’s spotlight is on the Autumn 2015 issue of Somerset Life.  All of the Stampington publications are beautifully photographed – and Somerset Life is one of the best.  There are some fun projects and inspiring photos in this issue and I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you.

IMG_4755Probably the one project I’m most excited to try is the faux soldering technique – using a glue gun!  The ‘caps’ on these beautiful pendants really do look like they’ve been soldered.  So many possibilities…

IMG_4756There are a couple of projects that use recycled materials and/or incorporate all those little goodies that you’ve been collecting (yes, we’ll call it collecting – definitely not hoarding :-)).  Just a little bit of stitching turns paper bags into purses & envelopes.  You can put all those ‘bits & bobs’ you’ve accumulated to good use on these paper treat bags.

Accumulated treasures have also been put to good use to create decorative candleholders.

If you’re tastes run a little more to the elegant, you’ll be excited to learn how to create the beautiful crown that graces the cover of this issue.

If you’ve seen something here that makes you want to start creating, come by and get your copy of Somerset Life Autumn 2015 now!

Make & Take for Saturday, October 31st

Fall Die Cuts

Craft Ideas — October 30, 2015

IMG_4727As I was rearranging product today, I came across some dies that I thought would make beautiful fall cards.  I was a little surprised that these dies hadn’t sold yet – but then I realized that sometimes you just need a little inspiration to get your creative juices flowing.  So I’m happy to oblige!

IMG_4728This first card is really simple to create.  I started with a piece of Strathmore 140lb watercolor paper.  I sprinkled on Ken Oliver Color Bursts (Sepia, Terre Verte, Merlot, Yellow Ochre, & Burnt Orange).  I then spritzed with water & dried.  Repeat until you’re (relatively) happy with the results.  Remember – what you’re creating at this point doesn’t have to be a masterpiece.  Once it’s die cut it will look fabulous!

I then die cut the colored piece with the Memory Box Grand Zinnia Background die.  I die cut the Memory Box Grand Zinnia Outline from black cardstock & layered the two pieces together (both of these dies are discontinued – once our stock is gone, that’s it).  I then embossed a strip of copper Stardream cardstock with the Taylored Expressions Leafy Vine embossing folder.  I layered that strip with a cream strip and a black strip on a berry-colored card base.  I attached my beautiful zinnia with foam tape for a little extra dimension.  Voila – a beautiful fall card!

IMG_4729This second card was possibly even easier.  I die cut the Memory Box Vercelli Tree Background from three different patterned papers – yellow, red & burnt orange.  I then cut the Memory Box Vercelli Tree Outline from brown cardstock.  I die cut the hills from green patterned paper using the Poppystamps Stitched Landscapes die (LOVE this die!).  I meant to sponge the tops of the hills with some brown Distress ink, but the sponge I used had some other color on it.  Not sure what it was, but no matter – it served the purpose of emphasizing the tops of the hills and providing a little separation.  A little foam tape and liquid glue (I prefer USArtQuest Perfect Paper Adhesvie) to attach everything to a kraft card base and – boom – another fall card done!

I hope this inspires you to do a little fall crafting.
