Dina Wakley 2017

  Dina Wakley – Ranger® Designer

Tuesday, May 23rd & Wednesday, May 24th

We are SO excited to be welcoming Dina Wakley back to IPR.  Dina will be teaching a total of 5 classes.  If you’ve been lucky enough to take classes with Dina when she was here in previous years, you already know what a wonderful teacher she is!  Descriptions and sample photos of all the classes are below.

We will be offering a total of 5 classes (see descriptions below).  Please read the following carefully before you sign up.

  • You may sign up for classes in-person at the store or by phoning the store and paying with a credit card.  No sign-ups via email!
  • If you phone the store, please do so during store hours (see bottom of any web page for hours) by calling 913-381-2217.  Please do NOT leave a message and request a call-back.  If you can’t reach us, please try again.
  • Payment is due at the time you sign up for a class.  We will NOT hold a space for you until payment is made.
  • In order to help with the cost of classes, you may split your payments if signing up for 2 or more classes.  If you sign up for 2 classes, you may make a 50% payment at the time you sign up and the remaining 50% will be due by March 1st.  If you sign up for 3 or more classes, you may pay 1/3 of the total at the time you sign-up, another 1/3 by March 1st, and the final payment by April 1st.  We will NOT remind you about upcoming payments.  Failure to make an on-time payment may result in the loss of a spot in the class and forfeiture of any deposits paid to date.
  • There will be NO refunds for classes cancelled after April 30th, 2017.
  • At this point we anticipate being able to accommodate everyone who wishes to take classes.  However, to insure your spot in your favorite class(es), we encourage you to sign-up as soon as possible!  The sooner you sign-up, the easier it will be for us to reserve a space with plenty of room.  In addition, once we provide Dina with class numbers (approximately one week prior to class), additional sign-ups may no longer be available (Dina MAY bring extra kits for some classes, but it isn’t guaranteed).  If it becomes necessary, we will create a wait-list for classes.
  • The supply lists are NOT optional.  Dina supplies 90% of the products you will use in class, but you MUST bring the supplies listed.  If you have questions about any of the products or need to purchase prior to class, please contact us – we’ll be glad to help!

Expressive Drawing
Tuesday, May 22nd
9am-12pm
$75

My “Art Journal Play” classes are all about exploring and playing with art journaling and mixed-media techniques. The goal is to learn techniques, experiment, play, and make finished journal pages. We’ll be working in journals, but the techniques apply to all mixed-media projects (canvases, book-making, etc.).

Even if you can’t draw, you are welcome in this class. Because guess what…I can’t draw, either! In this class we’ll take our skill level, whatever it is, and push it to be more expressive and free. This class will include powerful, scribbled faces, but will also include so much more–animals, flowers, buildings, you name it you can draw it. We’ll work in our journals in this class so that we have lots of space for practicing and experimenting.

Please bring:
  • Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, baby wipes, paper towels, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). You may also want a small notebook and a pen for taking notes.
  • Your art journal.

Working in a Series
Wednesday, May 24th
9am-4:30pm (1 1/2 hour lunch break)
$140

Most great artists take one idea–a color, a concept, an image–and use it many ways in their work. This repetition of ideas and images is artistically valuable. It creates work that has depth and interest, and helps you grow as an artist. Come to this class and we will chose our symbols and ideas, and then we’ll work in a series to create interesting artworks. We will make six expressive and playful small works on canvas boards. The pieces will look great on their own but will be even more powerful together. Be sure to bring your journal to use as a mop-up, for practice, and for note-taking.

Finding Joy in Abstraction
Wednesday, May 24th
6-9pm
$80

Join me for an exploration in abstract painting. Abstract painting might seem random, but it is based in composition and color theory. The skills you learn will be useful whether you later use them for backgrounds or as stand-alone abstract pieces. We will work on boards to create interesting foundations and looks with our acrylic paints and other mixed media supplies. After we’ve practiced, we’ll create a canvas. The end result will be gorgeous multi-layered paintings. Bring your journal, too, for practicing and taking notes. We will have lots of messy, artistic fun!

Please bring:

  • Basic tool kit: Ranger craft sheet, scissors, water container to clean your brushes, baby wipes, paper towels, paper plate or palette paper to use as a palette (or you can just use your craft sheet). You may also want a small notebook and a pen for taking notes.
  • A tub of white gesso.
  • Your art journal.
